Come experience Life on the ROCK!

Every adult who has made a confession of faith in Jesus could be a potential Kids on the Rock volunteer. There are many that will never consider being a part of this important ministry. It is not usually the ministry most aspire to participate in mostly because it does not produce visible fruit until much later. Workers become discouraged and discontented easily.

However, the need for children's ministry finds its foundation in the Bible. The workers needed to present an excellent program are numerous. The Bible repeatedly reveals the importance of training our children. Jesus Christ Himself set the example of being a diligent student of God's Word when he was a child (Luke 2: 46). We know that every act of Christ is an instruction for our own lives.

Our Lord loved little children and reached out to them (Matthew 18:1-6, 19: 13-15). It is important to teach children because they learn things far more readily than adults. What is learned by a child is seldom forgotten (Proverbs 22: 6). A child who is saved early in life wastes fewer years pursuing the worthless things of this world and has more years to serve God. God expects us to prepare our children to know their Creator when they are young (Ecclesiasties 12: 1).

Two important lessons that must be taught to children are God's judgement upon sin and His remedy for sin. The Bible teaches us that we must adjust our method of instruction to suit the hearers (1 Corinthians 9: 19-22).

  • We should have shorter lessons to suit their attention spans.
  • We should use object lessons since they have not learned to understand abstract concepts.
  • As in the case of both children and adults, we should teach the same truths repeatedly since we are sometimes forgetful.
  • Children appreciate the use of many gestures since they are better observers than listeners.
  • We spend many hours reading, researching, and planning active lessons to suit their physically active nature.
  • It is important to maintain pace since they are easily distracted and enforce discipline since they sometimes lack it on their own.

At Church on the Rock Melbourne, we provide our teachers and assistants all the resources they need. The amount of involvement is totally dependent upon the person serving. If you are interested in helping to develop the lessons or just execute the lesson, there is a spot for you. We are looking for teachers who would give as little as one week a month to plant a seed in fertile soil.

Small Commitment + Little Effort = Great Results!

The children's ministry provides ample opportunity for service. It is wonderful training ground and testing ground for teachers, preachers and future leaders.

May God help us to have the finest children's ministry with the widest outreach to our community. May we continue to uphold our present teachers in prayer and pray for more teachers to join our work.
